A non-opioid, experimental drug called EMA401 has shown promise as a treatment for chronic nerve pain in a new study in mice. It targets receptors on immune cells called macrophages, instead of nerves, and it doesn’t cross the blood-brain barrier, so it eliminates side effects such as addiction.
